NEWBERRY, Mich. (WZMQ) – Just one day after going into a lockdown due to a potential bomb threat, Tahquamenon Area Schools initiated a second lockdown on Wednesday.
Tuesday’s lockdown was caused by a note with the phrase “I have a bomb” found in a high school classroom. The Luce County Sheriff’s Office interviewed students who had been in the room that day and searched their lockers. The Michigan State Police brought in a dog to search for a bomb. Nothing was found, and officers are looking into the origin of the note.
On Wednesday, Tahquamenon Area Schools released a statement regarding a second lockdown at Newberry Area School that occurred in the morning. The 20-minute lockdown was due to an “out-of-control parent.” Law enforcement removed the parent from the school, allowing classroom activities to resume.
“The safety and security of your child is of top priority,” School Superintendent Shawn Tebo wrote.
The school district provided information to parents on what happens during a lockdown and what parents should do during a school emergency. To read the superintendent’s full statement, click here.
