CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Michigan State Police (MSP) Computer Crimes Unit Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force has announced the arrest of a Brimley man for aggravated child sexually abusive activity.
Police initiated an investigation into 28-year-old Jerred McCoy when they learned he was viewing child sexually abusive material online while he was residing in Brimley. A search resulted in digital evidence being seized and charges being issued by the Chippewa County Prosecutor’s Office. McCoy was then arrested by U.S. Marshals in West Virginia and extradited back to Michigan.
McCoy was charged with two counts of aggravated child sexually abusive activity, seven counts of aggravated possession of child sexually abusive material, and eight counts of using a computer to commit a crime. McCoy was arraigned in the 91st District Court on December 12. His bond was set at $250,000, with conditions including a GPS tether, prohibition from contacting anyone under the age of 18, and prohibition from using the internet unless for work, medical, or legal reasons.
McCoy’s next court appearance is set for January 12, 2026. If convicted, McCoy faces up to 25 years in prison for aggravated child sexually abusive activity and up to 20 years for using a computer to commit a crime.
