CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – A 24-year-old man from Brampton, Ontario has been arraigned on multiple charges, following his arrest for possession of a stolen commercial vehicle.
On December 12, a Michigan State Police (MSP) Sault Ste. Marie Post motor carrier officer (MCO) was on patrol near the Sault Ste. Marie International Bridge. At approximately 7:35 p.m., he observed a semi-truck towing a trailer that had commercial vehicle violations. A stop was initiated, and further investigation revealed that the semi-truck had been reported stolen out of Ontario, Canada. The MCO confirmed the truck was stolen and found that the vehicle’s VIN number had been altered in an apparent attempt to conceal its identity. The semi-truck and trailer were seized and towed from the scene.
The driver, Yuvraj Singh, was lodged in the Chippewa County Jail. On December 15, he was arraigned in the 91st District Court on charges of receiving and concealing a stolen motor vehicle, motor vehicle fraud-concealing or misrepresenting the identity of a motor vehicle with intent, and an invalid license plate-international registration plan. He was given a personal recognizance bond with conditions, including that he must surrender his passport, he must not leave the county or state, and he must be monitored by a GPS tether.
MSP was assisted by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Border Patrol, and Southwest Commercial Auto Recovery.
