NEWBERRY, Mich. (WZMQ) – UPDATE: On Tuesday, police investigated a potential bomb threat at Tahquamenon Area Schools in Newberry.
The Luce County Sheriff’s Office reports that between the second and third hours, a note was found in a high school classroom referring to a bomb. Students from the first- and second-hour classes in the room were interviewed, and their lockers were searched. The Michigan State Police (MSP) St. Ignace Post brought in a bomb dog.
During the search, the school went into a lockdown. Nothing was located by the dog. The school’s resource officer is looking into who wrote the note.
Luce County deputies were assisted by MSP Sault Ste. Marie and St. Ignace troopers.

A Newberry school announced Monday afternoon that a lockdown is temporarily in effect.
Just after 2:00 p.m., Tahquamenon Area Schools made a Facebook post announcing that the school is in a lockdown. Until the lockdown is lifted, no one is permitted to enter or exit the school. The post states that all students and staff members are safe, calling the lockdown “precautionary.”
According to the school district’s Facebook page, administrators received an “all clear” from officers shortly before 3:00 p.m. The school said that students would be dismissed as soon as possible.
