MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – NMU hockey carried on a holiday tradition that gets bigger and better every year tonight with the annual teddy bear toss.
During the wildcats’ game against St. Thomas, fans packed the berry events center armed with teddy bears and stuffed animals.
At the first intermission, the ice was covered with hundred of stuffed animals, as fans tossed their bears, all headed for a good cause.
The mining journal cheer club collected the donations, which will be given to the salvation army and st. Vincent de Paul.
Each bear will end up in a child’s home on Christmas morning, spreading smiles and holiday cheer.
Ticket prices were reduced to just five dollars hoping the money people save on tickets would go toward the purchase of a Teddy Bear.
“They are in serious need this year, so were just trying to help them out. And can you imagine the look on the kids face when they get to see the bear,” said organizer Jim Reevs.
If you couldn’t make it to the Teddy Bear Toss, you can drop off a teddy bear or toy to The Mining Journal office in downtown Marquette.
