ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – One person was injured in an early morning structure fire in Escanaba on Monday.
The Escanaba Public Safety Department was dispatched to a home on South 17th Street at approximately 2:24 a.m. When officers arrived, heavy fire was fully engulfing the front of the residence, with flames rolling over the roofline.
Public Safety personnel quickly deployed attack lines to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby homes. Firefighters worked efficiently to extinguish flames that had extended from the main level into the attic. Crews remained on scene for roughly three hours to fully contain the fire and to conduct overhaul operations.
One resident was transported to OSF St. Francis Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. An adjacent house suffered minor damage from the heat. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Escanaba Public Safety was assisted by the Ford River Township Fire Department, the Escanaba Township Fire Department, Rampart EMS, Delta County Central Dispatch, the Escanaba City Electrical and Public Works departments, and DTE.
