MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The room at the inn, Marquette’s homeless shelter, has been at capacity for the past several weeks, and the current snowstorm is only making things worse. With blizzard conditions expected to continue throughout the night, Room at the Inn Executive Director Chelsie Wilkinson says this is an emergency and that people should seek shelter immediately, any way they can.
“If you need to get out of the elements, please go to a laundromat, go to Walmart, go to you know room at the end, go to the police station. Just make sure that you are prioritizing your safety and your well-being,” implored Room at the Inn’s Chelsie Wilkinson.
The Marquette City Commission is exploring ways to temporarily house people until space opens up at the Salvation Army in January. One such option discussed is to house people at the Presque Isle pavilion.
