MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Northern Michigan University students are preparing for a week away from school with their Thanksgiving break.
Officially beginning Saturday, students are ready to enter vacation mode.
“It’ll be nice to get home, take a nice long break its really what I’ve been missing,” said Asher Johnson, a junior majoring in biochemistry. “I can take a second to not have to be in study mode, and a lot of times when I return from that, I can think better and everything makes more sense.”
The week-long break provides a good time to recharge and relax before finals in December.
“It’s a nice time to not think about school for a bit before finals,” said junior, Lamar Gordon, studying biology with a concentration in ecology.
After the long semester, students were asked about the one thing they’re most excited for across next week.
“My moms cooking, that’s definitely it,” said Ken Teodosio, a junior majoring in cybersecurity with a minor in marketing. “Honestly the food, I just love Thanksgiving,” said freshman Anabel Ollila, studying public relations.
Some have plans to continue their work over break, while others say they might not even open their backpacks.
“I’m going to spend a lot of break working on different research papers, and finish up projects,” said Gordon. “I’m going to say I’m going to, but I don’t think that’s going to happen,” laughed Ollila.
Northern classes will pick back up on December 1, with final exams beginning on December 8.
