MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Marquette County board of commissioners passed a resolution on Tuesday, regarding speed limit reductions through Humboldt and Champion Townships.
This comes after multiple requests were made to the county due to safety concerns along its main mile-and-a-half stretch of US-41. High speed traffic around the area’s tight turns, including through two snowmobile crossings and numerous hidden roadways have caused many accidents over the years.
After commissioners unanimously passed the resolution, Board Chair Joe DeRocha says he hopes the county can work to create a safer and slower environment throughout the townships.
“It really needs to be looked at,” he said. “I hope we can work together from the county’s perspective with the townships that have came here tonight and requested the speed reductions, and maybe MDOT has another solution. The high truck traffic certainly warrants a good hard look at.”
Marquette County will soon work with local and state levels of the Michigan Department of Transportation to further address the concerns.
