ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Monday, Delta County organizations kicked off National Hospice and Palliative Care Month with a special gathering in Escanaba.
OSF Home Care and Hospice hosted its annual Bells for Hospice ceremony outside the Seventh-day Adventist Pantry. Staff and volunteers were joined by Northwoods Home Care and Hospice and the Escanaba High School Chorale.
At noon, the group rang bells in recognition of hospice patients and their families, as well as the workers who care for them. The chorale performed Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” in honor of those who have passed while in hospice care in 2025.
“We are taking a moment for all of those people and families that we’ve had the honor to care for,” said Lena Nilsson, Vice President of Operations at OSF Home Care and Hospice. “Hospice and palliative care is extremely important at the end of life, addressing all the psychosocial, emotional, and spiritual pains that occur at this point, and having someone walk alongside with you to bring peace and comfort.”
