ISHPEMING, Mich. – City leaders held an open house in Ishpeming Thursday night. The event was held in the city’s muti-purpose senior living center, allowing the area’s residents to meet face-to-face with city council members, department heads, and interact with other members of the community.
The open house also served as a platform for the Michigan State University Extensions of Marquette and Houghton Counties to assist the public with their suggestions to its leaders. Ishpeming residents had the chance to participate in breakout sessions put on by MSU Extension that focused on making requests, offering feedback, and coming up with a new vision for the city. Each group had the common goal of making a list of ideas, and at the end of the session, were asked to read aloud what they had jotted down.
Ishpeming City Manager Randy Scholz said that the event served as an opportunity for the council to meet with the public in a neutral setting. Scholz also explained that holding the open house offered a feeling of the city going to its residents to hear their concerns, rather than the people go to them for help.
The city’s next council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, November 19th, at 6:00 P.M.
