MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Marquette-Alger Regional Education Service Agency saw discussion about disaster relief in Marquette County on Thursday afternoon.
Beginning a state-wide tour of staff from the Michigan Community Service Commission, Marquette County leaders in law enforcement, education, healthcare, and animal wellness gathered to talk responses, in the event of a potential disaster. This includes plans of training volunteer teams and funding repair services across the many emergencies that could happen at any time.
“Obviously a disaster could happen at any given moment, we just want to make sure our community is ready for it,” said Andrew Rickauer, executive director of United Way of Marquette County. “It’s better to start the community discussion of plans than to wait until it’s too late.”
Ideas covered in Thursday’s meeting will soon be taken back to Lansing for more discussion on how relief funds are distributed.
