Huskies open the season Sunday in Florida
GLIAC — With the official start of the 2025-26 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) men’s basketball season close at hand, the conference office announced its preseason player of the year and all-conference teams on Wednesday.
For the second consecutive year, Michigan Tech guard Marcus Tomashek was named the GLIAC Preseason Player of the Year. The senior from Green Bay, Wis. was an All-American selection and received Midwest Region Player of the Year and GLIAC Player of the Year honors in 2025. Tomashek averaged 23.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game, finishing the season with the fourth-most points for a season in MTU program history with 720 points.
Accompanying Tomashek on the All-GLIAC Preseason First Team is Grand Valley State graduate forward Ethan Alderink, Grand Valley State senior forward Jalen Charity, Northern Michigan graduate forward Dylan Kuehl and graduate guard Josiah Palmer of Parkside.
Alderink earned All-GLIAC Second Team honors in the 2023-24 season and appeared in five games in 2024-25 before suffering a season-ending injury. Charity was a Second Team All-Conference and GLIAC All-Defensive team performer last season, averaging 11.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game while shooting a team-best 49% from the field.
Kuehl, a three-time All-GLIAC First Team and All-Defensive Team selection who also earned D2CCA All-Midwest Region and NABC All-District honors a season ago, paced the Wildcats with 16.3 points and 6.8 rebounds per game, reaching double figures in every GLIAC contest and surpassing 1,000 career points.
Palmer led the GLIAC in assists last season at 4.2 per game and has been a model of consistency for the Rangers, averaging double figures in each of his last three seasons. He finished the 2024-25 campaign with 16.1 points per game and currently ranks 15th in program history with 1,284 career points.
Honored on the second team were Northern Michigan graduate forward Jackson Dudek, Ferris State senior guard Tyler Hamilton, Michigan Tech redshirt senior forward Dawson Nordgaard, Wayne State senior forward Carlos Paul III and Davenport sophomore forward Dylan Smith.
The 2025-26 season gets underway with No. 13 Michigan Tech in action at the Small College Basketball Hall of Fame Classic in Lakeland, Fla. The Huskies will face No. 3 Dallas Baptist on Nov. 1 and No. 19 Lenoir-Rhyne on Nov. 2.
