ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Monday, a telecommunications provider made a generous donation to a local nonprofit.
Spectrum and Charter Communications representatives visited Wellspring Community Church in Escanaba to award a $2,500 check to Mission of Hope Delta County. At the beginning of each school year, Mission of Hope distributes free shoes, backpacks, hygiene kits, and other necessities to more than 400 families in need.
“I can’t even believe it’s been going on eight years for Mission of Hope,” said nonprofit director Pastor Paul Culbertson. “It’s just a beautiful day of coming together to offer hope and give confidence, and we are incredibly thankful and blessed to be able to do so.”
The funds are a Spectrum Employee Community Grant. Mission of Hope was nominated as a recipient by Christine Russell, a Spectrum employee who volunteers for the nonprofit. This is not the first time Mission of Hope has been selected for an Employee Community Grant, and Culbertson says Spectrum’s contributions have been invaluable.
“The reason Mission of Hope exists is, first, because of the dream that God gave for us to walk in and, second, because of this beautiful community,” he said. “Because of Spectrum’s generosity—over $15,000 in the past six years—they have made an impact into lives of people they will never meet. It has been an amazing jump to help the trajectory of these kids’ lives.”
To date, the Spectrum Employee Community Grants program has awarded more than $2 million to over 400 nonprofits across the country. Charter has pledged to support a minimum of 500 organizations in the 41 states it serves through 2028, impacting more than 70,000 community members.
