Delta County Cancer Alliance wraps up Pink Fest with bra auction

ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Delta County Cancer Alliance, in partnership with the Daily Press, wrapped up its month-long breast cancer awareness event in style.

The second annual Pink Fest came to a close at the Highland Golf Club on Thursday. Attendees enjoyed food and specialty pink drinks, raffles, and live music by local Celtic band Fáilte. The main event was the Bras for a Cause Contest. Attendees paid to vote for their favorite bras, which were decorated by local businesses and organizations.

New this year, Pink Fest concluded with a bra auction. All proceeds will be used to help community members facing a cancer diagnosis.

“It’s tremendous,” Delta County Cancer Alliance Vice President Cindy Cass said of the turnout each week. “It’s so great to see so many people come out and support the Cancer Alliance. We help a lot of people in the Delta County area who are struggling with cancer.”

The Cancer Alliance provides financial support, wigs, mobility and nutritional aids, and other supplies for cancer patients. The community’s generosity goes a long way toward funding those invaluable resources.

“Thank you for your support, helping all our friends, neighbors throughout the community,” event coordinator Stephanie Viau said.

The Highland Golf Club was the final of four local businesses to host Pink Fest events. Club Manager Gretchen Grzyb-Tallman hopes attendees were reminded to take charge of their breast health this October.

“Being a woman myself, it’s very, very important for ladies to get mammograms,” she said. “October being Breast Cancer Awareness Month, that kind of brought light to how many women don’t do it. We wanted to be here to get people involved in doing it.”

Although Pink Fest is over, the community can still support the Delta County Cancer Alliance through its annual raffle. Tickets are available to purchase at the Cancer Alliance office, located at 3430 Ludington Street in Escanaba, and more information will be available on the Cancer Alliance Facebook page.
