Wildcats host Saint Cloud State Sunday

KENOSHA, Wisc. – The Wildcats played the Parkside Rangers to a 0-0 draw in a rare mid-week match.

The Wildcats (4-4-5, 3-4-2 GLIAC, 11 points) seemed to have brought the UP weather with them to Wisconsin, as today’s match saw temperatures just below 50 degrees and 20-30 mph winds blowing parallel to the field. Eight of the starting eleven played the full 90 minutes for the ‘Cats today, including all eleven starters playing 77+ minutes, led by Luca Rosen with 10 shots and three on target. Goalkeeper Asaf Kristal made four saves to earn his GLIAC-leading sixth shutout on the season.

The Rangers (4-4-4, 4-2-3 GLIAC, 15 points) sustained its four-point lead over the Wildcats in the GLIAC standings, maintaining the third-place position in the conference, and now are just three points back of Saginaw Valley for second. The Rangers had seven players play the full ninety minutes, including a five-save shutout from Daniyal Rana, his third of the season.

The Wildcats out shot the Rangers 20-13, with five on target to four, and amassed eight corners to four. When the ‘Cats had the wind in the second half, the team out shot the Rangers 16-5 with seven corners to two.

NMU held a 52% possession advantage, and while in control of the ball, the ‘Cats had the ball in Parkside’s half for 72% of the time, compared to Parkside’s 56% possession in NMU’s half.

NMU was whistled for four yellow cards to UWP’s two. James Carr (3), Owen Rutledge (3), Quint Van Roij (2), and Ian Weimer (2) all picked up bookings.

These two teams have now played to a 0-0 draw twice in history: today (10/22/2025), and the first-ever meeting between the two sides (9/23/2018), both results coming at Kenosha.

How It Happened
The Wildcats weathered the storm in the first half, as the Rangers had 20-30 mph winds at their backs for 45 minutes. The Rangers outshot the Wildcats 8-4, with both teams having one on target, and Parkside only holding a 2-1 advantage in corner kicks. The Wildcats were whistled for eight fouls to four, including being shown four yellow cards to Parkside’s none in the opening 45 minutes.

With the wind at back, the Wildcats dominated the final 45 minutes, outshooting the Rangers 16-5, with four on goal to three, and amassing seven corner kicks to two. The Rangers were also whistled for both of its yellow cards in the second half.

Up Next
The ‘Cats are now off until Sunday, when the team comes back to Marquette to host St. Cloud State. Kick-off from the NMU Soccer Field is set for 12 p.m. ET.
