BRIMLEY, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Brimley woman has been arraigned on felony drug and obstruction charges after a traffic stop.
On October 16 at approximately 3:39 p.m., troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Sault Ste. Marie Post stopped a vehicle for having defective equipment on M-221 near Depot Street. During the traffic stop, the troopers contacted the vehicle’s occupants and saw evidence of open intoxicants in the vehicle, which allegedly belonged to the female passenger, 45-year-old Melissa Lyons.
When troopers investigated further, Lyons began physically resisting them. The troopers safely took her into custody, although one of the troopers suffered a minor injury while securing her.
The troopers’ further investigation resulted in the discovery of open intoxicants and suspected methamphetamine, which allegedly belonged to Lyons. It was also confirmed that she had a warrant for her arrest out of Chippewa County.
Lyons was arrested for possession of methamphetamine, resisting and obstructing a police officer, open intoxicants in a vehicle, and for the separate warrant for her arrest. She was lodged in the Chippewa County Jail for the offenses.
On October 17, Lyons was arraigned in the 91st District Court on one count of possession of methamphetamine, one count of resisting and obstructing a police officer, and one count of open intoxicants in a vehicle. She was given a personal recognizance bond with conditions. She is next due in court on October 30.
