ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Saturday, October 11, the Escanaba Farmers Market will feature a special Harvest Festival for children and families.
In addition to the usual vendors, the market will offer fall-themed treats, crafts, games, a pumpkin painting contest, trick-or-treating, and other activities.
“There’s going to be prizes where they can pick a leaf and get a prize from that,” said Escanaba Downtown Development Authority Director Craig Woerpel. “There’s going to be a pool where they can dive into the corn and find prizes within that. It’s kind of a family day as markets are starting to wind down here at the end of fall.”
“A lot of people that come to shop [at the market] bring their little ones to play on the playground,” Market Manager Judy Schroeder said. “We thought we’d put together a day of fun and games for them. The kids can try out their new Halloween costumes.”
According to Woerpel, this has been an especially successful year for the Farmers Market. The Harvest Festival is an opportunity to celebrate with the community.
“We had over 20 vendors throughout the year here,” Woerpel said. “We’ve had a higher number of produce vendors as well, so that’s encouraging to see.”
“I would like to thank everyone for supporting the farmers maret,” added Schroeder. “We have people that show up every market, and it’s been great this year.”
