A Marquette hair salon has teamed up with Texas Roadhouse today to make a big difference for kids facing medical hair loss. Our JOHN TRUITT shows us how the First Annual Cuts For A Cause is bringing the community together—one haircut at a time.

Jessica Mariin, owner of Fresh Coast Beauty

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – For children battling cancer, alopecia, or recovering from burns. Losing their hair can be devastating. That’s why the nonprofit organization “Children with Hair Loss” provides free human hair replacements, helping restore confidence during life’s toughest battles.

“The hair is going to go into making wigs for children at no cost to the kids. Everything is paid for and covered,” said event organizer Jessica Mariin.

Fresh Coast Beauty and Texas Roadhouse hosted the first-ever “Cuts for a Cause” hair drive in Marquette, raising awareness and support for childhood cancer and alopecia Awareness Month.

“When kids lose hair, some of them can lose part of their identity. They feel different from everybody else, especially because most of the time, the reason that they’re losing their hair is due to medical issues such as chemotherapy or other cancer treatments,” explained Mariin.

Outside the restaurant, licensed cosmetologists offered free haircuts to anyone donating eight or more inches of hair, turning those locks into hope for children in need. For six-year-old Rowan Graham, it was her first haircut.

“She did really good. I was actually surprised at how well she did, but they were really excited to be able to give back to the supreme cause,” said Rowan’s Mom, Katie Graham.

Texas Roadhouse diners also played a role. From 3 to 8 pm, a portion of every check went back to the cause.

Back outside, the stylists could barely keep up with the amount of generosity.

“I had people who pre-registered. We had the cut off pre-registration. We currently have a wait list, so we can get more people in for haircuts,” added Mariin.

All proceeds and hair donations from the event go directly to “Children With Hair Loss”.
