MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Business leaders from across Marquette County came together this evening to network, make introductions, and break bread around a common table with a common theme.
“It allows new members of the community within the business community, in one meal, to connect with the leaders of all different types of industry segments. So whether it’s technology, whether it’s banking, hospital, medical, all of those leaders are part of our club,” said Innovate Marquette CEO Joe Thiel.
The Economic Club of Marquette County brings together people from vastly different fields who may not ordinarily interact with each other.
“It allowed me to network with the university. It allowed me to network with my technology team; I would have never been able to do so unless I had some specific kind of connection with them, and it really opened up my opportunity here at Marquette,” said Thiel.
The featured speaker tonight was 906 Adventure Team Director Todd Poquette, who oversees the nonprofit responsible for some of the most challenging endurance events in outdoor adventure. Poquette’s team hosts the “Margie Gesick”, the “Polar Roll”, and “The Crusher”, all world-renowned bike and run events that defy description. However, his message tonight was focused on their youth programs.
“Things we need to be investing in for the future are our kids, our youth, education, and their preparation to face the hard stuff that’s ahead of them,” Said Todd Poquette, Director of the 906 Adventure team.
906, Adventure Team has so far reached 10,000 kids in 17 communities, allowing these kids to realize their full potential.
“There has to be a unified vision of how we’re going to get kids ready for the future. It’s not going to be too long before they’re gonna be running the business,” added Poquette.
Poquette pointed out that the Marji Gesick is this weekend, and all are invited to come out and watch the fun.
