ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – A new resource is giving Escanaba residents a way to quickly and confidentially provide tips to local law enforcement.
Citizens can now submit anonymous reports to Escanaba Public Safety through an app called Tip411. According to department Director Darren Smith, the goal is to encourage citizens to report concerns or complaints without fear of retaliation.
Since Public Safety began using the app, Smith says tips have increased significantly. Particularly, people are more likely to send tips concerning narcotics and suspicious individuals when the process is confidential.
“With them knowing that they’re going to remain anonymous, you do see a lot more tips coming in,” Smith said. “We always get tips over the phone, which people know can be traced, but this is one avenue where they probably feel safe enough that we can’t figure out who it is and it can’t trace back to them.”
