HOUGHTON, Mich. (WZMQ) – Star gazers from across the country were looking up into the Copper Country skies this past weekend for the inaugural Great Lakes Aurora Dark Sky Jamboree.
The 4-day festival, also known as “Glad Jam”, celebrates the northern lights and the stark beauty of the Keweenaw Peninsula.
A welcome reception was held Friday Night at the Rozsa Center on Michigan Tech’s campus, which featured the founder of the Michigan Aurora Chasers and the director of Visit Keweenaw, Brad Barnett.
“And in the evenings, we’re taking groups out to Breakers Park for dark sky viewing parties and bonfires. we’ll have yoga in the morning, twilight yoga, and all sorts of experiential opportunities to get people outside in the Keweenaw and join what we have to offer, and of course, enjoy those dark skies,” said Visit Keweenaw Executive Director, Brad Barnett.
Attendees were treated to everything from guided hikes, photography workshops, and advice from expert astronomers.
