ALGER COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) — A 27-year-old Alger County man is behind bars after detectives say they found more than a dozen firearms in his home.
According to the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team (UPSET), the arrest came after a six-month investigation with help from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). Investigators say the man, a convicted felon, was identified through social media posts showing him firing several guns.
Because of concerns for officer safety, the Michigan State Police Emergency Support Team was brought in to serve a search warrant. Officers say the suspect was taken into custody without incident.
Inside the home, detectives recovered 12 rifles, a pistol, and multiple semi-automatic firearms equipped with large-capacity “drum type” magazines.
The man was booked into the Alger County Jail. His name has not been released.
UPSET was assisted by several MSP units, including the K-9, Aviation, and Traffic Safety teams, along with ATF.
