Lavender Co opens Gladstone storefront

GLADSTONE, Mich. (WZMQ) – A new, sweet-smelling business has opened its doors in Gladstone.

Lavender Co is located at 1010 Delta Avenue. Owner Whitney Comps says she initially got into lavender farming after her husband brought up the idea.

“I initially said no because I’m not an outdoor girlie at all,” laughed Comps. “Then within 30 days, we had found a property, we bought the farm, and we started planting that spring.”

Now, Comps’ farm has 4,000 lavender plants in seven varieties. Comps uses those plants to make the products customers will find on the shelves of Lavender Co.

The shop offers body oils, candles, sugar scrubs, lotions, fragrance oils, and even products for dogs. Comps describes the shop as “a lavender farm meets an apothecary,” saying there are many benefits to utilizing lavender in body care.

“Lavender is super great for you,” she said. “It’s antimicrobial, antibiotic, antiseptic. Like our hydrosol spray—if you have cuts and bug bites, spray it on and it heals. It’s soothing and calming and relaxing, so it’s great to use before bed. We try to find something for everybody.”

Lavender Co is the latest addition to the downtown Rialto Center. Comps says the area is a great fit for her business.

“Saunders Point is right next door, and they actually carry a beer with our lavender, so you can get your beer over there and then come and shop!” she said. “Superbloom [Coffee House], they’re the ones that helped us find this location right across from the post office. You couldn’t ask for a better location and neighbors.”

Lavender Co is open Monday, Thursday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Visit the shop’s Facebook page to see more of what’s available.
