MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Northern Michigan University debuted the new entrance to its lakeside soccer field today with a ribbon-cutting of the new entrance to the men’s and women’s soccer pitch.
The new entrance is a copy of the Ore Dock in Downtown Marquette, complete with parts from the original.
On top runs railroad tracks from the original, and many of the design elements use parts from the old downtown dock.
The entrance was conceived, designed, and built by Northern’s Construction Management Program.
“They came up the idea for the ore dock after taking a look at the location over here, and thought that that was one of the things that would really bring back a lot of solid heritage that Coach Comly and the athletic department was really looking for with this project,” said Evan Lucas, Associate Professor of Construction Management.
In addition to the ore dock-inspired entrance, the facility has a new branded fence wrap, a new speaker system, and new goals
