MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Downtown Marquette Wednesday Night Farmers’ Market has only one week left. Here we take a look at some of the vendors.

There’s something for everyone at the downtown Marquette farmers market. Over the summer, we have profiled several local farms, local artisans, and some other vendors that are unique to farmers’ markets.

“My husband and I, this is our retirement fun and fund, and so we’re kind of in a partnership together. He has a lapidary machine. He cuts and polishes a lot of my stones,” said vendor Cindy Silva.

While cruising the market myself. I spotted people doing what looked like Tai Chi or Yoga, but it was actually Finnish Asahi, a no-impact movement program that uses stretching and controlled breathing as well as mindfulness.

“Asahi was invented to be something that is so accessible that there’s no excuse not to do it. It’s been made so that there’s no way to injure yourself. And it’s based on modern medical science.

Margaret Vainio is one of only five master Asahi trainers in the world. She came all the way from Finland for Asahi week to share and teach this graceful movement to others. Emily Heikkinen is learning to be a trainer.

“Four years ago, I met Margaret here at the farmers market, and I’m half Finnish, so of course, I’m interested, but I do yoga and those sorts of things, and I’m always looking for something else to keep fit and limber,” said Heikkinen.

Asahi week will run till next Wednesday. Below is a list of locations and scheduled sessions.
