LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Off-road enthusiasts will have a chance to explore Michigan’s trail system for free this weekend.
The state Department of Natural Resources says residents and out-of-state visitors can ride designated routes, trails and the state’s six scramble areas on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 16-17, without buying an ORV license or trail permit.
All other ORV laws and rules still apply, and a Recreation Passport is still required where applicable.
The DNR says fees from ORV licenses and trail permits are reinvested into the state’s off-road vehicle system, funding projects such as trail grooming, expansion and infrastructure improvements.
Michigan has roughly 4,000 miles of off-road vehicle trails and six scramble areas open to riders.
