ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – A special exhibit at the U.P. State Fair is home to pregnant animals, new mothers, and their babies.
In the Miracle of Life Pavilion, fairgoers can see newborn sheep and calves, including a set of twins born around 12 a.m. on Tuesday. There are also baby chicks and ducks on display, as well as eggs still waiting to hatch.
“You have to incubate your eggs for 28 days,” explained Miracle of Life Pavilion Supervisor Diana Abram. “You have to keep a certain temperature and spray them with water every day to keep them moist. That way, the shell stays soft so they can pick through easier.”
Spectators can watch as Miracle of Life staff care for the eggs, feed the sheep and cows, and assist with births when needed.
“I think it’s a good experience because there’s a lot of people that never see the birth of a baby duck, chicken, a calf, a lamb,” Abram said. “You’ll see they come back and back. If that here when that calf is born, they’re coming right back to see that calf. It’s a good experience for everybody.”
Birthing dates and times are updated and posted in the Miracle of Life Pavilion as mothers welcome their new babies. The Miracle of Life Pavilion is located near the livestock barns.
