MARQUETTE, Mi. (WZMQ) – Saturday, the Backpack S.O.S drive held by Silver Creek Church is back for another year. This drive-thru event takes place from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Silver Creek Church parking lot.
This event offers the community an opportunity to support families by providing school supplies. Each child is allowed to pick out their backpack and receive a pre packaged supplies bag based off the child’s grade. Plus, each supplies bag comes with a voucher for three free outfits per child from Silver Creek Thrift. This voucher is good until the end of the school year.
“Connecting with parents on the day of the event, people will really express to us, you know, how it makes them feel. Another big one is people that are just contributors,” said Kevin Taylor, Silver Creek Church Pastor
All the donations come from multiple local donors, silver creek church, and community members. This drive has grown immensely, from the first year giving out 50 backpacks to last year giving out 900 backpacks. For more information on the drive thru or how to donate, go to Backpack S.O.S website.
