Ishpeming Rotary Club celebrates completion in Teal Lake Dock Project

NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Rotary Club of Ishpeming has officially celebrated their completion in the Joint Teal Lake Dock Project.

As of now, the project is only completed on the Negaunee side, with Ishpeming’s dock set to be completed later in the year. The two new A.D.A. compliant docks are located on both ends of Teal Lake, exceeding standard accessibility guidelines, accommodating for both canoes and kayaks.

After postponing its initial ceremony during Pioneer Days due to weather, on Monday, the Rotary Club met at the Negaunee dock to honor its importance to the community. Members agree that the docks will bring more inclusivity to the shared body of water.

“I was really great that you know we have an opportunity to share those body water together, and it’s beautiful,” said Ishpeming City Manager, Randy Scholz. “I think if people can spend time out here and look at it, I think a lot of people drive by it obviously, but they come in to spend some time by it or in it, and this will give them the other opportunity to do that.”

The City of Ishpeming, City of Negaunee, and the Rotary Club of Ishpeming worked alongside the Michigan DNR and its Recreation Passport Grant Program. This was a $114,000 grant, contributing a total of $152,000, after the required local match of $38,900 was made with support from the following:

  • City of Ishpeming – $10,000
  • City of Negaunee – $10,000
  • Ishpeming Rotary Club – $10,000
  • Tru North Credit Union – $1,000
  • West End Health Foundation – $7,500
  • Ishpeming/Negaunee Community Fund – $1,900
  • U.P. Rowing Club – $1,000
  • Rotary District #6220 – $7,500
