GWINN, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Marquette County Fair will be introducing a new event this Friday — a Police vs. Fire Go-Kart race dubbed the ‘Battle of the Badges.’
In cooperation with the Marquette Kart Club, the race will also serve as a local food drive. Each team will compete for the most donations, with the winner receiving the first go-kart pick.
“We’re doing almost two days of donations,” said Tom Bontrager of the Marquette Kart Club. “At 6:00 on Friday we’ll decide who gets to pick their kart… or bicycle.”
Donations can be made at the fair on Thursday through Saturday, or at participating departments throughout the week. This includes the Marquette City Police Department, Northern Michigan University Police Department, Chocolay Township Police Department, Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Marquette Township Fire Department, and the Marquette City Fire Department.
The ‘Battle of the Badges’ will begin Friday at 6:30 p.m., at the Marquette County Fairgrounds at 715 M-553, Gwinn, MI.
