SANDS TWP., Mich. (WZMQ) – Marquette County was looking up to the skies over the weekend as Wings Over Marquette treated huge crowds to a variety of aircraft.
The show featured vintage military aircraft from World War II, a Russian Cold War fighter jet, and a Vietnam-era US helicopter, among others. The crowds packed the tarmac of the former Ki Sawyer Force Base to get up close to these incredible aircraft and meet the daring aviators who pilot them. Some of the fan favorites were the P-51 Mustang, the A-10 fighter jet, and the Red Bull aerobatics plane.
“It’s a unique opportunity. Most of us never get to walk on a tarmac. You never get to walk up to an Air Force A-10 and actually talk to the pilots or the crew members and hear about how did you got started flying? What do I have to do to do this? Or, you know what? What makes your airplane work? And what does,” said Michigan Flight Museum Director of Communications, Brenda Kerfoot
Wings over Marquette was produced by the Michigan Air Museum, and this event was their first show in Marquette.
