NEGAUNEE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Three remarkable individuals are being inducted into the Negaunee Public Schools Hall of Fame.
Bob Bonetti served 33 years as a teacher, coach, and principal, transforming Negaunee High School’s wrestling and football programs. His fondest memory, however, was not in sports.
“The job I enjoyed the most was when I was principal for a dozen years. I enjoyed working with the staff, the special needs students, and developing a curriculum,” said Bonetti.
Karen Plaisier spent 35 years teaching and coaching, earning championships in three sports and a spot in the UP Sports Hall of Fame. She was an inspiration on and off the field.
“My athletes, I always encourage their education, and we made sure they did their homework on the bus, because you can’t always go anywhere with your sports, but you have to get into the world and make something of yourselves. And I think athletics kept a lot of kids in school,” said Plaisier.
And Dr Michael Grossman, a beloved physician, supported Negaunee High School athletes for over 40 years, while giving back through medical care and community service. He remembers Negaunee’s commitment to athletics as well as academics.
When I would go there on Saturday, and the coaches gave them a break for the rest of the weekend, yeah, they would always emphasize get your homework done, school is important. Go home and be with your families schools and
Together, they represent a legacy of excellence, leadership, and lifelong dedication to Negaunee.
