MARQUETTE COUNTY, Mich. — A 40-year-old man from Sault Ste. Marie was killed early Thursday morning in a motorcycle crash near the roundabout on U.S. 41 and County Road HQ, according to the Michigan State Police.
Troopers from the MSP Negaunee Post responded to the scene at approximately 5:12 a.m. on July 31. They found the motorcycle severely damaged and the lone rider, who had been ejected from the vehicle, lying nearby.
Investigators believe the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on U.S. 41 when the rider lost control approaching the roundabout, striking the berm. No other vehicles were involved in the crash.
Troopers attempted CPR and other lifesaving measures before emergency medical personnel arrived, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities said excessive speed was likely a factor in the crash. The rider was not wearing a helmet.
The man’s name has not been released pending family notification.
The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office, Marquette Township Fire and Rescue, and the City of Marquette Fire Department assisted at the scene. The investigation remains ongoing.
