CHAMPION, Mich. (WZMQ) – As the Marquette County August 5 Special Election draws near, Champion Township takes up half of the ballot with three bond renewals this year.
These include current standings in its General Fund Operating Millage of 5.00 mills ($5.00 per $1,000 of taxable property value), Financing Emergency Medical Services of 1.00 mills ($1.00 per $1,000 of taxable property value), and the Road Fund Repair and Maintenance millage of 2.00 mills ($2.00 per $1,000 of taxable property value).
“We’re not asking for any increases in anything, just maintaining the status quo,” said Champion Township Supervisor, Mike Simula. “The importance is, the money is needed for the continued operation of the things we already have in the township.”
Simula says it’s important to understand that although there are no changes this year, renewing these items is crucial to maintaining the areas budget.
“Our budget is pretty lean and mean, but we’re able to do quite a bit with what we have,” he said. “So, in order to keep doing the things we’re doing we just need to be able to get these millages renewed.”
Simula also reminds residents that the township’s polling stations will take place in its new Champion Township Office at 1071 US-41 this year.
The office will be open for voting on Tuesday, August 5, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
