HOUGHTON, Mich. (WZMQ) – Two lanes of M-26 south of Canal Road in Houghton have been closed due to pavement damage caused by recent heavy rainfall.
Contractors for the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be working in the area to repair a storm sewer that failed due to excessive storm runoff. Lane closures will be in place until repairs can be made on the storm sewer and a nearby culvert. Crews plan to keep at least one lane open in each direction on M-26 during repairs. Motorists should drive cautiously in the area and expect traffic shifts and possible congestion.
The initial work is expected to take a week or more. MDOT will update the public on the full timeline for repairs as more information becomes available.
