MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Camp Infinity is back at Northern Michigan University this week, giving girls in the fifth and sixth grades a hands on introduction to computer science and coding.
“But when it’s all girls, you kind of feel like relaxed and you don’t have to go super-fast, and then you won’t you’ll have less chances of messing up too,” said camper Anvi Tripathi.
Camp infinity is a weeklong tech camp designed to spark interest in STEM among young girls through
interactive sessions, campers are learning to code program robots and design their own websites, while gaining real world skills in problem solving and computer science.
“We try to reach the girls at a very early age, where they are brave and will explore and learn and then continue to grow as they move through the years of schooling,” said organizer Loretta Yakima.
Campers also meet with professional women in the industry, gaining firsthand insight into exciting and rewarding tech careers.
“We need the girls in technology, so they know that they can do this and pursue this further education, because we need to fill those jobs, especially in Michigan,” said Yakima.
Camp Infinity is a touring institution, with close to a dozen locations across Michigan, and dates throughout the summer. For more information please visit https://mcwt.org/programs/k-12-initiatives/camp-infinity/
