MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – As part of the NMU Music Department’s faculty summer recital series, percussion is this weeks instrumental focus, with “Beat the Heat!”
On Tuesday evening at 5 p.m. in Reynolds Recital Hall, NMU Professor of Percussion James Strain will be hosting a free drumming performance, along with four other musicians.
The show will feature percussionists from the Marquette Symphony Orchestra (MSO) playing a selection of various pieces, with a large number of original scores as well. Strain says during the recital and after will offer a good time for all.
“The concert is free, it’s enjoyable, bring the kids,” said Strain. “You can stop and visit afterwards, ask about all the crazy sounds that we might do, we’re doing music from all different time periods over the last hundred years.”
Over a dozen percussion instruments will be used throughout the hour long performance.
