ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – The City of Escanaba originally planned to hold a firework display on July 5. However, rainy weather caused the fireworks to be postponed to July 12. Now, the rescheduled display has also been canceled due to the forecast.
On Thursday, the City’s Recreation Department and Great Lakes Fireworks announced that this year’s fireworks have been canceled. According to a press release, Great Lakes Fireworks requires three hours of travel time and six hours of setup time with no rain. The forecast predicts rain and thunderstorms throughout the day.
“This has been a very hard decision to cancel as a lot of work goes into planning an event such as this which began last fall,” said Escanaba Recreation Director Kim Peterson. “We hope the community understands that we cannot control the weather and will be looking for another date in the future.”
WZMQ 19 will provide an update if a future firework show date is set.
