MARQUETTE, Mich. — As cities across the country prepare for fireworks displays this Independence Day, Marquette is once again offering an alternative way to celebrate—one designed with accessibility and inclusivity in mind.
While the city’s traditional fireworks show will take place on Wednesday, July 3, Marquette will also host a laser light show on the historic Lower Harbor Ore Dock on July 3, 4, and 5.
The display has been held for the past few years as a sensory-friendly option for individuals who may find fireworks overwhelming, including veterans and others with PTSD or sensory sensitivities.
“We wanted to show the veterans respect in having a celebration specifically for them, especially those that have PTSD or other sensory issues,” said Susan Estler, CEO of Travel Marquette.
The laser show will begin 20 minutes before the fireworks on July 3. On July 4, it will begin at dusk, and on July 5, the show will start at 9 p.m.
