CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Mich. (WZMQ) – A Sault Ste. Marie man has been arraigned on felony charges of possession of methamphetamine and a misdemeanor traffic charge.
At approximately 4:03 p.m. on June 14, troopers from the Michigan State Police (MSP) Sault Ste. Marie Post observed a vehicle with defective equipment traveling on Johnston Street near Easterday Avenue in Sault Ste. Marie. Troopers initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver.
The troopers’ following investigation resulted in the arrest of 41-year-old Derek Gehrke on charges of methamphetamine possession, operating a vehicle without insurance, and a separate warrant for his arrest. Gehrke was lodged in the Chippewa County Jail.
On June 16, Gehrke was arraigned in the 91st District Court. His bond was set at $5,000 with conditions. He is due in court again on June 30.
