CALUMET, Mich. (WZMQ) – The Swededtown Trails Club in Calumet unveiled its new ADA compliant trail, the first mile of the two-mile-long “Two Hoots” loop. The new trail is wider and have shallower inclines to allow wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment to traverse it comfortably. The accessibility improvements were two year in the making and the Swedetown Trails Club Board said they’re necessary to provide a complete outdoor experience for everyone.
“It’s not something that is really available to cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts in the Keweenaw,” said Swedetown Trails Club Board Member so it really just brings together this whole package of a more welcoming, well-rounded facility for people of all abilities.”
In the future the board plans to make the second mile of the loop ADA compliant as well.
