DRUMMOND ISLAND, Mich. (WZMQ) – A car crash on Drummond Island left one man injured and another dead on Monday.
Around 8:48 p.m., Chippewa County Central Dispatch received a call about a traffic crash on Warners Cove. The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene.
Once there, deputies found that a Chevy Impala had left the roadway and struck a culvert. The Impala then crashed into the trees.
The driver and passenger were young men from Drummond Island. Neither appears to have been wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Both were transported from the scene, but the driver did not survive the crash. The passenger sustained major injuries.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, preliminary investigation results show that alcohol and excessive speed were contributing factors in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
