Community gathers for annual Rapid River Memorial Day parade

RAPID RIVER, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Monday, Rapid River brought all of Delta County together to celebrate America’s freedom and those who fought for it.

The city’s yearly Memorial Day parade made its way through Main Street, led by American Legion Post 301 and local veterans. Other vehicles and floats in the parade included local law enforcement, the Memorial Day queen, Overdose Awareness of Delta County, Girl Scouts, and members of the all-female Honor Flight that traveled to Washington, D.C. last week.

“I’m excited to see fire trucks!” said Rapid River resident Marley, who attended the parade with her siblings, Logan and Carson, and her friend Brayden.

“I’m excited just to be here with my friends and just have fun with them,” Carson said.

Logan added, “And some quality time with our family and friends.”

When asked why the group wanted to get together for the holiday, Brayden said, “I respect Memorial Day because I respect all these soldiers who have died and respected us.”

Attendees Charlie Angsten and Zoey Decremer are cousins. Charlie currently lives in Georgia, so she was glad to be home in Delta County with her family for Memorial Day.

“We came out to the parade to see all the floats and all of the interesting things that they have here,” she said. “Memorial Day is just an interesting day!”

“It reminds us of the people that are still alive that have been in it and people that passed away that are in it,” said Zoey.

After the parade, the crowd moved to Masonville Township Park for live music, food trucks, and the annual kickball tournament.
