MARQUETTE, Mi. (WZMQ) – The Ishpeming Memorial Day Ceremony was held at the Ishpeming Cemetery at 10 a.m. This event is put on by the Veterans Service Organization of the western Marquette county.
This ceremony had many tributes to veterans no longer with us. It had the reading of names of veterans who have passed, the flag folding ceremony, playing of the taps, flag parade, firing of the revolvers, and multiple speeches.
Another touching aspect of the ceremony happens on the Thursday before, when volunteers place American flags next to the graves of veterans who have passed. This ceremony’s goal is to keep the memories of those who are no longer with us alive.
“My little piece of it is to keep people’s memories alive, men and women died so we can live the way we live today some people lament that we maybe we aren’t living well I disagree we got a great country and the men and women that died we wanna remember them that’s memorial day is all about never forget, never ever forget,” said Tom Perry, Memorial Day Program Master of Ceremony.
After the ceremony, there is a luncheon held at the Ishpeming American Legion for all to enjoy in the community. For information on how to participate or just attend next year’s Ishpeming Memorial Day Ceremony, go to the City of Ishpeming website.
