BARAGA, Mich. (WZMQ) – Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College (KBOCC) has announced a paid internship initiative designed to strengthen local workforce development and provide hands-on experience for students.

KBOCC is partnering with businesses in the Baraga area to place qualified students in internship positions that align with their career goals and fields of study. All internships are fully funded by the college, so there is no cost to participating businesses.

Fall 2025 internships will run from September 2 to December 12. Student interns will work up to 20 hours each week and earn $15.00 per hour.

According to KBOCC Workforce Development Chair Joan Kruzich, the initiative reflects the college’s commitment to student success, community engagement, and economic development across Baraga County and beyond.

“This is a win-win for our community,” Kruzich said. “Our students gain valuable real-world experience, and our local businesses benefit from fresh ideas, energy, and support at no cost.”

Internships can be hosted in a wide range of industries, including business, health, hospitality, education, information technology, trades, and more. KBOCC will work directly with each business to identify suitable placements and ensure that learning outcomes align with workforce needs.

Local businesses interested in hosting a KBOCC intern for any of the upcoming semesters are encouraged to contact Joan Kruzich at jkruzich@kbocc.edu or (906) 524-8405.
