MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – On Monday evening, Vietnam veterans from around the state were formally celebrated with a pinning ceremony at Ore Dock Brewing Company.
The Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency (MVAA) annually travels around the state to represent those who have not priorly been honored. This year the MVAA came to Marquette, pinning 18 veterans for their service from 1955 through 1975 across each branch of the military.
Whether serving in the United States or overseas at that time, these members were recognized with a lapel pin that symbolizes their service and sacrifice.
“After most conflicts, you get a service pin when you return home, our Vietnam War-era veterans were not,” said Brian L. Love, the director of the Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency. “So we’ve made a concise and deliberate attempt to make sure we honor as many of them as possible.”
Monday’s ceremony kicked off the 2025 Michigan Veterans Leadership Summit, taking place on May 20 and 21st at Northern Michigan University.
