MARQUETTE, Mich. (WZMQ) – Since 1971, Forsberg Flowers has held a generational impact throughout the Marquette community. This season marks their 53rd Mother’s Day celebration.
“We’ve had a tremendous following locally,” said Lou Ann Balding, a previous owner and designer for Forsberg Flowers.
The Forsberg family of five, with parents Gale and David, Mary Lou and her brothers Steve and Mark all originally started the shop together. Throughout its years, the store has expanded to work with local growers and other local businesses, especially around these popular occasions.
“We probably wouldn’t have had such a successful Mother’s Day without them,” said Bobby Glenn Brown, the store manager for Forsberg Flowers.
Sunday was a great start to the summer season, not just with their increased sales of flower bouquets, but a number of longer living house plants as well. Balding says that the significance of this weekend comes from everyone’s own ways of thanking or remembering mom.
“Everybody hopefully has a sweetheart, somebody to remember that’s special,” said Balding. “But everybody has had a mother, whether she’s still with us or not, mothers still get the big play.”
The store looks forward to the coming celebrations of graduation, wedding season, and peak plant season overall.
