IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZMQ) – With continued high fire danger warnings across the Upper Peninsula, the Ironwood Township Volunteer Fire Department fought multiple back-to-back brush fires over the weekend.
On Sunday, the department said in a Facebook post that firefighters had responded to three brush fires. The department advised the public to extinguish all smoking materials. They also asked that citizens keep ashes stored in metal containers until completely cool or douse ashes with water and dispose of them properly.
Monday morning, the department made another post warning of extreme fire danger in the area.
“Temperatures in the mid to upper 80s, RH of 10-20% and southerly winds gusting 20 to 30 mph and possibly higher will keep us in the critical fire conditions,” the post reads.
