Players de Noc youth production of ‘Alice in Wonderland’ opens this weekend

ESCANABA, Mich. (WZMQ) – This weekend, the curtain opens on the latest production by the Players de Noc.

This year’s youth show is Alice in Wonderland, the story of a teenage girl navigating the journey of life in a dream state.

“This is her mind working through letting go of childish things and becoming more of an adult,” said Director Heather Grimes. “It’s not the Disney version that people are used to seeing; it’s based more in the book.”

Colorful costumes and whimsical sets transport the audience to Wonderland with Alice. Performers as young as 13 are the stars of the show, which Grimes says also serves as a showcase for local up-and-coming talent.

“Bringing youth into the organization is really important,” she said. “As they get older and as we get older, it helps replenish our ranks and it helps bring a vibrance to the stage that we need in our community. We need to have an outlet for them to be as creative as the adults in our community.”

Alice in Wonderland runs May 2 – 4 and May 8 – 10. Grimes says tickets are going fast.

Tickets can be purchased in person at the Bonifas Arts Center during business hours and online at playersdenoc.org.
